Will Aer Lingus serve SFO?
Question:
I thought that, about a year ago, I’d read that there were plans for service to No. California. Any updates?
Response:
They are waiting for the resolution of the open skies agreement with the US government, which limits the amount of US cities they can fly into. If the limits are lifted, they said they will definitely open up more US routes, with San Fransisco and Philadelphia being two of their immediate routes.

If the US is smart they won’t sign open skies without agreeing to drop the ludicrous requirement that airlines must serve Dublin and Shannon with an equal number of trans-Atlantic flights. The Irish government realizes this will mean a significant drop in SNN business, and so far have been unwilling to let the issue go.
Response:
For now the problem is more likely to be access to Heathrow. In any case once the negotiations have to cover 25 countries it will take forever. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->>I thought that, about a year ago, I’d read that there were plans for >>service to No. California. Again, the Irish government is not allowed to negociate open skies agreements as has ruled the European Court. Has to been done by Brussels. Regards, ULF
