TRAVEL INSURANCE
Question:
We travel-cruise several times per year. We Have recently purchased an ANNUAL policy with TRAVEL GUARD that will save many $ per year.
Response:
When I compared the annual policy it looked like the added segment charge would negate any savings. There is an additional charge for ea trip I think.

There is no segment charge for the base policy. But the plan does not include any type of trip cancellation or trip interruption coverages. If you need this coverage you have two options: 1) Purchase the Platinum plan at the $249 rate and add $1,000 of cancellation coverage for an additional $99. Please note this $1,000 is per year, not per trip. If you have a cancellation claim for $800 the first month you have the policy you only have $200 left for the balance of the year. 2) Buy the additional cancellation coverage on a trip-by-trip basis. As the previous poster pointed out this is rarely the most cost-effective way to go. The annual plans are ideal for frequent business travelers who might either be traveling on the company’s dollar so they don’t care about cancellation coverage or that buy last-minute fully refundable tickets. For everyone else it can under some circumstances be the better way to go but usually not. Travel Protection Services http://www.travelproservices.com

we need travel insurance –78 yrs old ?? Prefer just cancelation or yearly policy
Response:
In your other question you asked about Princess, if all you feel you need is cancellation, check out their Love Boat Care policies, they offer a credit on a future cruise for voluntary cancellation by you for any reason. Very Very few policies offer cancellation for any reason. Each policy has different coverages, you have to find one that covers what you need. We use a yearly policy for medical coverage out of the country, and then when we cruise we can get a policy not so heavy on the medical coverage. I don’t believe there are any affordable policies that offer yearly cancellation. You can compare different policies (other then the ones from the cruiselines) side by side online at places like www.insuremytrip.com and www.quotesmith.com There are many who believe you shouldn’t insure from the cruise line in case the cruise line files bankruptcy, but if the cruise line offers you the coverage you want, and you believe they will last until the end of your trip, then I don’t feel they should be discarded.

Suggest you check out Travelguard.com I believe they have cancellation coverage. I ususally take their insurance. More importantly, if you book within 7 days of booking you trip, they waive the preexisting conditions. The most important part of travel insurance is the medical coverage (medicare doesn’t cover you outside of the US) and medivac back home. Also, no one wants to think about it, but also covers the return of remains.

I will tell you whyyou need it. Medical Airlift can cost $15,000plus . I would not go on a ship without it and I have no serious medical problems. Diane Giambalvo Travel Consultant GalaxSea Cruises And Tours East Brunswick, NJ 1-800-357-9393 www.galaxseaeb.com
Response:
Well Put Diane. Too often, travel insurance is thought of as a be all, end all, cancel for the heck of it type of coverage. I feel the best policies are third party coverages, that address default, terrorisom, and pay the medical expenses upfront. kind regards, scott Scott Weinbrand, CTC Vice President of Sales GMCG featuring iTravel Insured
