You have two options. You can trade it with someone who plans to use theirs, assuming theirs expires after yours does. Or, you can sell it. There’s definitely a secondary market for them. You can advertise on rec.travel.marketplace or a .forsale newsgroup in your area. In Texas, where ticket scalping is legal, there are legitimate businesses, usually located in strip centers, that sell event tickets. These same merchants often buy and sell Rapid Rewards tickets. The farther out before the expiration date you sell it, the more value it has. Another poster suggested you contact Southwest to find out how to transfer it. Don’t waste your time. All "transfer" means is that you can give it to anyone.

I have a round trip travel award coupon from Southwest Airlines. It expires before I’ll be able to use it. Is there anything I can do to extend its life? I know with other airlines you can redeem the award and have another year to actually buy the ticket. If not, are these things assignable? Is there a secondary market for them? Mine expires in December 98. Thanks

: I have a round trip travel award coupon from Southwest Airlines. : It expires before I’ll be able to use it. : Is there anything I can do to extend its life? Nope. If you read the back it says "Travel must be completed by the ‘valid through’ date." : If not, are these things assignable? Is there a secondary : market for them? Mine expires in December 98. Award tickets are transferable. If you call the Rapid Rewards number, you can ask how to transfer the ticket.
