rat terrier needs home
Question:
Yes, I’ve been in touch with their local person and they don’t appear to have any foster homes available. — Lori in Peoria, IL – Happy Hound Bakery at Happy Hound Hollow ~ Ask me about hound-sitting while you vacation! ~ Family stuff: http://www.geocities.com/reynoldsfamily_2000/ Happy Hound Hollow Sighthound Rescue ***and now Dobermans, too!: http://www.geocities.com/happyhoundhollow – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Have you tried http://www.ratbonerescues.com/ ? > 8^)~~~~ Sue > ~~~~~~~ > "I reserve the absolute right to be smarter > today than I was yesterday." -Adlai Stevenson > http://eckhardt.net/suzanne/

I’ve been contacted to take possession of a 9-yr-old female doberman that "comes with" a rat terrier. I have no problem fostering the dobe, but I worry about the rat terrier. I fear that he will be at risk in my home with 5 very high prey drive sighthounds, and would like to find another home, either permanent or foster with a rat terrier rescue, ASAP. I have tentative plans to pick them up Saturday evening. If anybody could help me out, I’d really appreciate it. I’ve been running into dead ends with rat terrier rescue, seems all their local foster homes are full. He’s 4 years old, neutered, up to date on shots and current on interceptor and frontline. These dogs are being given up because the husband died, the child went away to college, and the wife goes out of town on business week a month and has to board the dogs plus she frequently doesn’t get home in time after work when she’s not out of town. After going along like this for about 6 months, she’s decided the dogs are alone too much and would be better off placed elsewhere. They both sound like perfectly wonderful dogs, but neither are crate trained, and she says the rattie goes bonkers when in a crate. and they’ve pottied in crates. She also said the rattie is pretty attached to the dobe. These issues may just be her perception of the situation, though, or she may have left them crated too long or may not be aware of proper crate training methods. The rattie has "papers" and she said she has no problem getting a medical history printout from the vet. I plan on asking her for any remaining food, dog beds, crates, toys, etc that can come along with the dogs to help them transition. I will also work with her to fill out a relinquishment/information form. Owner is out of town this week until Thursday evening, at which time I will call her to firm up plans and see what all she can provide in the way of supplies, paperwork, and any possible monetary donation. Please forward to whatever forum you think might be of some use, and have frequently).
