HEY! We are planning a trip to St. Kitts and need to find out where the best places to stay are, who has the best diving and generally what is up. We are using our frequent flier miles and want to know if St. Kitts is the best place to go for our first trip to the caribbean? Thanks, Scott

My family (wife & 5 yr. old & I) spent a very enjoyable week at Jack Tar St. Kitts in Oct. ‘94. It was our first Caribbean experience. The island is quiet and safe, easily toured in half a day & beautiful scenery. Particularly fun was an all day catamaran cruise to Nevis on the" Tropical Dreamer". The beach at Nevis (Pinney’s Beach) was unforgettable. There was also a stop for snorkelling. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing place to go, we would highly recommend St. Kitts. In fact, we had planned to return last October; unfortunately, the hurricane season got in the way ( we ended up in St. Lucia and were disappointed). You have picked a winner in St. Kitts. I just returned from my honeymoon on St. Kits two weeks ago and had a fantastic time. All due respect to the Canadian who suggested Jack Tar Village, but I personally thought it was a dump. You drive up to it from an alley and it resembles a made over Red Roof Inn. You have to wear a color-coded hospital type braclet denoting what meal plan you are on. Moreover, it just looked cheesey to me. My wife and I stayed at Ottley’s Plantation and were thoroughly spoiled rotten. Ottley’s has the best food on the island, with easily the most scenic setting between the ocean and the mountains. Visit their homepage accessible via the St. Kitts/Nevis homepage under "Accomodations", and you decide. He was correct in suggesting a trip to Nevis. the beaches on St. Kitts aren’t great; you have to head to Nevis for good beaches. You’ll enjoy the trip. Other places to consider beyond Ottley’s would be Rawlins Plantation and The Golden Lemon. Have a great time in St. Kitts!! Brian

Excuse me, but did you stay there? So what if you drive up to it from an "alley" and it resembles a "Red Roof Inn" (what the hell is a red roof inn anyway?) The grounds are nice, the rooms clean, the food good, the staff friendly and the rates reasonable! Furthermore, are you also implying that Canadians are cheap and congregate in "cheesy resorts"? I really don’t see the relevance of mentioning that I am Canadian ( and proud of it)! By the way, there were a lot of Americans ( and British) tourists at Jack Tar; two American couples that we got to know had been returning there for several years! >My wife and I stayed at Ottley’s Plantation and were thoroughly >spoiled rotten. Fortunately, not everyone in the world is a spoiled rotten snob! >He was correct in suggesting a trip to Nevis. the beaches on St. Kitts >aren’t great; you have to head to Nevis for good beaches. You’ll >enjoy the trip.
Gee thanks – it’s a priviledge to be correct on one point!! By the way, At Jack Tar, at least you can walk to both beaches; the Atlantic-side beach is gorgeous! >Have a great time in St. Kitts!!
