Net TV and marketing

Question:

>From the >research that I have done, the typical Web TV user look at the Internet as a >tool to make their lives easier and more comfortable.

A key research question would be "How far from the set are the WebTV users?" Normal TV viewing distance would imply web designers need to offer large text pages. Hi, fellow marketers. As you are probably well aware, Net TV has finally ‘arrived’ albeit still in small numbers. I am currently studying the effects this would bring to our marketing techniques. From the information I have gathered thus far, web TV users are quite different compared to computer users. For one, they are much more enthusiastic about things online. They will practically sign-up for every newsletter(free ones, of course) they can get their hands on. Okay, I do exaggerate a little. Some of this is due to the novelty value of the Internet to these users. Novelty is not the whole story, though. Web TV users, mainly, consist of less technically savvy users. Sure, there are some who choose Web TV for its low cost. The introduction of this group of less technically-minded users pose a challenge to us, marketers. From the research that I have done, the typical Web TV user look at the Internet as a tool to make their lives easier and more comfortable. As a result, they are more open to purchasing online. Now, when I say ‘purchase’ I don’t mean those supposed business plans, MLM projects, etc. No. They are more likely to purchase things that are used daily. Immediate examples that crop up to mind are things like groceries, theatre tickets, books, CD’s and such. This, I feel, is a largely untapped market. I’m not suggesting that everyone should go into selling grocery! Not at all. I just think that more research should be done on this subject matter. I will be doing a full-scale research on this subject. If any of you are interested, we could perhaps work together on this. I expect to complete this research sometime in July. You can find the full results in my website. P.S. You are invited to visit my website and give me your opinions. As a token of appreciation, you will receive a 6-month complimentary tutorial on marketing. Cheers. None. WebTV will be dead in a year (or two at most.) With the coming introduction of ADSL technology, cable modems, and other high-speed access points along with $500 web surfing computers that can actually do other things that computers do, the whole reason for the existence of WebTV is dead in the water.
