Name of Labs that do DNA bird sexing?
Question:
Hi, I need the names of any labs or businesses that determine a bird’s gender through DNA in blood samples. I know ZooGen does this, but can anyone send me info on any other places (phone number, e-mail addresses, etc.)? I know there was at least one other place listed in one of the exotic bird magazines, but I don’t have access to those magazines at this time – so if anyone can pass the info on to me it would be very appreciated. Bird Talk, May 1996, p33 has an ad for Avian Biotech International, which does DNA sexing, fingerprinting (determining whether or not birds are related), and storage. Their phone numbers are: (800)514-9672 (904)386-1145 Their address is: Avian Biotech 4500 Shannon Lakes Plaza Unit 1 Suite 138 Tallahassee, FL 32308 The only other company I saw listed as doing DNA testing was Zoogen. The one we use is AvianBiotech International. They are in Florida and their number is…1 904 – 386 – 1145.

Avian Research Associates, Inc. Lab 100 Techne Center Dr. Suite 101 Milford, Ohio 45150 513-248-4700 Is now doing DNA sexing and last time I checked they were cheaper. This is the same lab that does the Beak and Feather and Polyoma Testing. Sheryl
