Extended Warranties worth buying??
Question:
I am considering the purchase of a new 98 intrepid and need advice about purchasing an extended warranty.Should i buy one from CC or is there any alternative sources and do i need it. Is the price negotiable.
Response:
IMO, they are a complete waste of money. This is a very old saying, but it is so true – If you are so concerned about the reliability of the vehicle that you are buying, that you are considering getting an extended warranty, then maybe you should look at more reliable vehicles to purchase. When I bought my only brand new car, a 94 Camaro, the dealer did a major hard sell on me to buy the extended warranty. When I refused, he even asked why. I basically told him that if I thought that I needed to buy an extended warranty, then I wouldn’t have bought the car. BTW, the car ran flawlessly, and was completely trouble free. The extended warranty would have been a complete waste of money. Greg McCausey Join the Battlestar Galactica Mailing List http://users.lazerlink.com/~robertfh/bsglist.txt

You don’t have to buy the extended warrenty with the car. You can buy it anytime during your 1st 3 years of ownership. The Chrysler extended warrenty is the safest bet… they won’t go out of business (probably not anyway) when you need it. The price of the extended warrenty is negotiable. I called Chrysler when the car was 2.5 years old. They sent me pricing for multiple plans for my LHS. I called the dealer. He charged me 100’s less.

If you get the Intrepid get the ex warr–you can negotiate the price and length of coverage–but take the 3-36 not the 7-70 from CC because you will find that the ex warr don’t cover all stuff like the 3036—on my Intrepid id did not cover a bad rear torque arm(nothing in the rear suspension is covered) and also not the sway bar links–also of course the famous warping rotors–The ex warr saved me thousands in repairs over the 50,000 miles I put on my Intrepid. If you sell or trade before the warr is up CC will reinburse the difference to you..One A/C repair will pay for the ex warr…I had a condensor replaced for over $500 the ex war was just over $600….
