AA FA Strike (Thurday!)
Question:
Today’s morning news said that the FAs are planning to strike this coming Thursday (November 18), if the talks with the management do not succeed. I will be flying from Lafayette to Chicago O’Hare (American Eagle), and continuing to Tucson (AA) this Saturday. I checked with the airline yesterday, and they told me that (at this time) NO CHANGES have been made to any travel plans. OH MY! This trip is going to be quite a MESS!!!! Believe it or not: It was cheaper to fly LAF-ORD-TUS-ORD-LAF, than ORD-TUS-ORD or IND-TUS-IND (IND=Indianapolis), even though it involves flying American Eagle! So much for the savings!

Well, your American Eagle flight is probably safe since depending on the size of the plane they don’t likely have any FA’s! I just flew AE a couple of weeks ago for the first time in recent memory, I was going from San Diego to LAX to catch the red eye to NY. I had booked myself on AA’s 8:35 flight, a three class 767, I even had a seat in the business class section (this is a very strange flight, it just goes SAN-LAX, nowhere else, I assume they just need the plane in LAX for another flight). I got to the airport early, so I decided to take AE instead, on a Jetstream J31. Talk about a culture shock – going from business class on a 767 to a J31!

I take it all the time. Unforunately, it’s not always a 3 class 767.

In general, you’re right. But a very large proportion of AmEagle aircraft are over the 19-seat limit. Think of all those SAAB 340s and ATR42s. I think the ORD operation that the original poster was going to use is mainly (solely?) an ATR42 operation. OTOH, are AmEagle FAs part of the same union as AA’s FAs? — – Stefano Pagiola Food Research Institute, Stanford University
