4 wheeler recommendation

Question:

I’m considering the purchase of a new 4 wheeler, and having never owned one am looking for advice.  It will be used mainly for hunting here in Michigan and I don’t have plans for any intense work for it.  I know I want a 4 wheel drive one, but what are the advantages/disadvantages of things like automatic transmission, engine size etc.  Are there any makes/models to stay away from?  On a spring bear hunt last year the outfitter had 2 Hondas and a Yamaha all with winches.  I was amazed at how much crap those things would go through. Hey Jim, If you are planning on buying a 4-wheeler for hunting and you want a 4-wheel drive, then it sounds like you are going to need a tough and durable 4-wheeler. I have been riding for years and years and have tried to learn all that I could about them. You said that you saw a Honda and a Yamaha on your hunting trip and you were suprised by there pulling power. You were suprised because Honda and Yamaha are about the 2 best brands you can get, yet Honda is more durable. If you are wanting a Honda hunting 4-wheeler I will strongly recomment a Rancher or a Foreman. You should either get a 450 or higher for driving in the woods. If you don’t want a Honda then another good choice is the Kawasaki Prarie, that is a really nice 4-wheeler with a lot of power but I would still recomment the Honda over that. The brand that I would stay away from would be Polaris. They are alright at first but they are not very durable at all. Well, I hope you find Honda to be your choice but choose what you think is best. I hope that you have good luck finding a 4-wheeler that is just right for you.
