Shaved hair good for business?
Question:
> Hi fellow entrepreneurs, > It seems like more and more men are shaving their head. Would it be a good > business attire for an executive to shaved his head, too? I do notice that > women prefer shaved head rather than balding head.
(snip) Haven’t seen shaved heads on business execs around here. We’re in a relatively conservative area, so I wouldn’t expect it. To an extent, I suppose it depends on your profession. Some fields receive more latitude than others in how people dress and groom themselves. I have the opposite concern: how long can I allow my hair to get and still make a good first impression with the vast majority of business people? I’ve settled on a half-inch to an inch below the collar. In a creative field such as mine, it seems to work. — Steve Holmes, Steve Holmes Productions (helping companies communicate through award-winning video) Iowa City, IA, USA http://www.shpvideo.com *** Replies: Simply reply as you normally do. I don’t think this looks bad at all, but I’m 27 so I see this alot in my generation already. I guess it depends on the head.

In the consulting world, sometimes out-of-norm appearance can work to your advantage. I have personally tested this out by growing my hair MUCH longer than just past the collar. When I had military "doo," I got maybe half the respect and attention that I did with the long hair and ratty clothes. My theory is that the clientelle thought "well, if he can look that odd and his bos DOESN’T fire him, he’s probably worth listening to." I eventually lost the pony tail when I figured out I was spending more on hair care than my girlfriend was. Then I got promoted (damn! shoulda never taken the raise) and had to dress like any ordinary corporate cog. You might have similar experiences when you shave the noggin. There’s a funny Seinfeld episode where Elaine’s boyfriend has a shaved head. He eventually lets it grow back in but finds out he’s gone bald over the years. It freaks out Elaine, who dumps him, and totally blows away his self confidence. A possible downside to living on the razor’s edge. *** Replies: Simply reply as you normally do. Hi fellow entrepreneurs, It seems like more and more men are shaving their head. Would it be a good business attire for an executive to shaved his head, too? I do notice that women prefer shaved head rather than balding head. Any comments would be appreciated… Would this trends put the hair-growth industry out of business? [JG's 2 cents: Well, if I were the "Hair Club President for Men", I'd find another job or develop a new product; "The After Five Stubby-Nubby" look hair piece. -JG] *** Replies: Simply reply as you normally do. Expression I want to introduce into the English language:
"ba-ko-do" ( = "bar code") : adj/noun for the hairstyle that
involves valiant efforts to cover
up a bald spot with whatever strings
