Anywhere desparate people want something and are likely to be denied or put off. Think drug takers and hospitals, social security, some bail offices, some schools, some bars and sports grounds. Also worth investigating: police stations, mental institutions (ill and handicap), kindergardens (seriously). Anywhere there’s frustration or a community type problem. "workplace" is a bit limiting, many schools could be willing to pay for "coping with bullying" type courses for teachers and/or kids. Also think about companies employing individuals who go out into awkward situations in the community. Traffic wardens (cops), clampers, repomen, social services, tabloid journalists and photographers, transport ticket checkers etc. John John Block Creative, marketing aware work which Freelance Copywriter talks rather than blandly bores, actively promotes your product, International and aims to be the best Welcomes Dollar and Sterling, in your market sector. You should try Retail, Department Stores, Discount chains etc. It’s a huge market, a growing problem and many employees. In addition, there are a predominate number of women in the front line positions, which open the same theme up to domestic issues in the workplace and volitale customer issues. Steve, While I’ve been on the net for a few years, I’m new at this. I could not find the original posting from COP149. Would you please pass this on to him. All businesses have competition in many forms. The fact that the workplace may be the safest place to be does not mean that it can’t be safer. Some businesses may be more prone to danger than others. Some may need to be more safe than the norm, possibly hospitals, nursing homes, etc. This is a form of market targeting. Last year I retired from 30 years at a major corporation and decided to start my own business in marketing. I guarantee that there is enough competition in this arena. Evaluate your potential market, realize the pitfalls ( such as the workplace being the safest place to be ) and GO DO IT!. Starting any business takes research and planning. You have knowledge and experience, but it not in the field of starting and running a business. My best advice is to get professional business start-up counseling to make the most of your background. {Research them as well.) Write articles aimed at employers and managers, explaining what to look for and what steps to take to prevent violence. Submit these articles for publication in business and government magazines and newspapers. Organizations are always interested in reading articles like this, articles that help them reduce losses. The larger the circulation, the larger your readership. Make sure the publications allows you a little room at the end of the article to provide your bio and company name and contact phone number. Articles like this take time to research and write and submit, but they usually generate leads. Qualified leads at that. Many of us already are in the field of providing training for supervision and other employees on the understanding of and prevention of workplace violence. I do seminars and in-depth training sessions on the subject all the time. There are also a number of books on the subject and videos. Any company that is going through a down-sizing is a target for workplace violence. This is not a new area there are a number of people who specialize in the subject. Someone remarked on the US postal service being a prospect because of the problems they have had. Well folks hold on to you hats because the post office is just the tip of the iceberg. They down-sized early and these other agencies and companies are going to see the same problems as time goes on. The best way to reach prospects is word of mouth from previous customers or to have a reputation as an experienced trainer. Baring that you probably should look for companies that are down sizing and concentrate on them. Finally if you do direct mail be sure to spell check anything you send out. – I wish you a GREAT DAY!!! What are you going to do the first time someone marches out any number of studies that indicate the workplace to be the safest place for a given individual to be? Being at work with respect to personal injury as a result of violent crime is far safer than being at home, going to the store, dining out, or many other activities that people normally engage in. We had several assaults this past year at NCSU and women were really scared until it was graphically pointed out to them that they stood a far greater chance of being attacked at home than at work. One of the university police officers made the truthful statement that if you wanted to be safe for two-thirds of your average day — go to work. I will hazard a guess somebody is paying for you to practice your "art" as an employee. A good place to start is to find out how many other such "customers" (i.e. buyers of your art) there are out there. If you can package and price the benefits in a similar fashion and have enough left over to make a good living or better yet enough profits left over after you have been paid a fair market rate… you should have a business. Just a quick "rough" suggestion for helping you decide to further investigate getting into business for yourself. J.P. Solyom KS Business Development
