I don't want to be a jerk but….

Question:

> What does this mean, in normal human terms???

Basically – if you know what you are doing, you can make it difficult for the SPAMbots to harvest your address from news postings, but if you know a bit more, you can still harvest something.         Cheers,                 Gary    B-) —                         POWERflex Corporation   Developers of PFXplus                         Vox:  +61 3 9888 5833   Fax:  +61 3 9888 5451                         Visit our Web Site:           www.pfxcorp.com NOTE:   All opinions are mine, and bear no necessary relation to those         held by my employers.

YES!  That’s because once "tons" of companies get your address, they sell it, trade it, etc.  So it’s very unlikely that they all "lost" your address when you added "nospam".  It’ll take weeks, sometimes months for them to lose your address.

Response:

I don’t get any anyway all i get is mail about my webpage.

>in dumb-people’s terms..(i am a puter dumb dumb) how can i stop the spam?

***I*** cannot even stop AOL from billing me, let alone stop the spam!  They actually suggested CLOSING my bank account and opening a new one–which would of course screw up all sortsa of other autodeposit, etc things!! So we’ve given up, for now (since I’m not using my own site, I can’t complain too much!) John

Anyway you will still get junk mail its not like your efforts have fdone much good And I know all about Aol and porn mail I got tons of it. but in my opinion AOL sucks.

Response:

Most ISPs will not relay mail from AOL.  They are famous for hhosting spammers. We do what we can do.  "no-spam" is for the News/Mail sniffing  Bots not forh umans. We can’t do anything about someone passing off our real addresses. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Anyway you will still get junk mail its not like your efforts have fdone >much good >And I know all about Aol and porn mail I got tons of it. but in my opinion >AOL sucks.

As a programmer I thought I’d put my $0.02 in on this one.  Parsing out that string is soooo simple it’s not funny.  Here’s the perl routines to do it. $LINE =~ s/dot/./io; # Changes the dot to . (case insensitive) $LINE =~ s/s+//o;    # Removes whitespace. Spammers are going to get your address no matter what you do.  Just trash them when they arrive.  Or if you’re lucky enough to run the machine that the mail comes in on, set up filters.  Mine typically bounce 10 to 20 a day destined for our employees.  That may not sound like a big deal, but this is an 8 person company. If anyone wants some suggestions or hints on sysadmin level spam blocks, drop me a note… Pat — Programmer & Systems Administrator                    +1 713-977-4177 x115 Larson Software Technology                        http://www.cgmlarson.com

There’s an even easier solution:  Don’t reply to them if you don’t mind taking an extra few seconds to remove the "nospam" from their address. I agree it can be a pain, but spam has gotten so bad that after starting my web consulting business 4 years ago, about 75% of the email I get is spam!  I simply can’t pick out the good messages from all the bad.  So I set up a special hotmail account ONLY for posting to newsgroups.  I check it once or twice a week, delete the spam (easy to tell because the subject won’t match any of my newsgroup posts) and read my email.  I find it works better than the "nospam" additions.  The problem with adding "nospam" is that intelligent spiders can automatically remove this and snag your valid email address!  If my email ever gets bombarded by spam, I’ll just kill it and start a new account with hotmail again. > All of you who put nospam in your e-mail to keep from getting mail you don’t > want. All of you who put nospam in your e-mail to keep from getting mail you don’t want. Are wasting your time. Whenever you e-mail someone they get your e-mail address. Why not just delete the mail that is not of use to you. It takes less time unless you hang out porn sites all day and get tons of porn junk mail. Anyway my advice to you is to live with it! Also you get junk mail whenever you submit you e-mail address or visit a webpage with cookies that take your e-mail address so they can send you their junk mail.
