Help writing press Releases

Question:

Kieth, Get yourself a copy of "6 Steps to Free Publicity" by Marcia Yudkin. It’s a great primer for writing press releases that get results.  You can find it in just about any bookstore or at Amazon. Kieth: I just finished writing a book about self-publishing and marketing your own Information Products.  It has a chapter on Press Release writing. I’d be happy to send you a copy of the chapter via e-mail if you’re interested. Regards, Barb — Barbara A. Hello Kieth, I find it useful to relate to the audience of the media you are interested in having pick up your "news." Step 1 Tell an interesting story: Put yourself in the shoes of the audience served by the target media organization. Tell an interesting and compelling story. Talk to your audience. If you can’t get the audience excited about your news then why would you think the editor would be interested in publishing your news release. Step 2 Use the writing guidelines to format the press release: Take your story and write it up. If possible, have some people fitting the profile of your target audience review your release. Listen… listen… listen to their comments! Improve your release. Step 3 Send it off. Just a few comments. J.P. Does anyone know of any useful resource sites about how to write effective press releases? All I can find on the web so far is either academic stuff as to how they can be important to the organisation and adverts for agencies. We want to keep it in-house and it’s come down to me to organise … Any help appreciated. Kieth      MBMM       *DIGEST VERSIONS*      MEM   Go to http://markethink.com/lists/ to subscribe

Why is you people are always looking for free professional help? Okay — here’s the short course:  make it newsworthy!!! Too many press releases are poorly disguised advertisements.  If the event that you want to write about is newsworthy — the write it that way.  The press is only interested in news after all.  If there’s marketing value to be had in it (which there always is)then let it come through like Monica Lewinsky’s interview with Barbara Walters. > Does anyone know of any useful resource sites about how to write > effective press releases? > All I can find on the web so far is either academic stuff as to how > they can be important to the organisation and adverts for agencies. > We want to keep it in-house and it’s come down to me to organise …
