FAW-help with DC credentials
Question:
Frederick and anyone else who wants to bother checking out Doug Cooks credentials. Doug is lisenced by the USDA-APHIS. He holds the same kind of lisence as Sea World or any Zoo,etc. You may also want to check with the NMFS as they provided the permit for his recent transfer of 5 harbor seals and one grey seal. Now you might want to ask yourself, if Doug is so unqualified, why would one of the largest animal consulting businesses transfer (at their expense) these penipeds? Why wouldn’t they send them to Sea World or some other facility? I met Doug several years ago and have been his apprentice for may of those years. In those days you could go to a bird fair in Fla or other SE states and see Doug and Jerry with 30 or 40 birds on open perches that they hand tamed. I am now starting my 4th season in Michigan as a macaw trainer and show presenter. I have also worked with many other animals we have had here in the petting zoo. I have watched Doug take a day one b&g baby that the mom left for dead and feed him around the clock for the first two weeks. He is now 2 years old and a healthy happy performer in my show. I have also seen Doug hold a 2 year old sweet inocent llama that was so badly hurt by 2 dogs that she had to be put to sleep. Doug did not want her to be afraid or alone in her last minutes. While Doug shows little patience for many people, he knows animals and is a wonderful and knowledgeable animal person. I know he can be a SOB and those of you that have been on this ng as long or longer than we have would probably agree with that. Believe me you wouldn’t want to be in front of him in a "cash only" line and pull out a check book! I have also been priviledged to see Mr. Blue who is a blue YN. and have been lucky enough to get into aviaries that many aviculturists would envy, because of my association with Doug. I have also met a few world renowned animal trainers and they all have BIG egos! And Dougs is as big as the state he loves so much (Texas) and I know that he doesn’t need me to defend him, but because of him, I have been able to bottle feed a camel, feed a seal, train a rhea and be up close and personal with a lot of animals I had only before been able to admire from afar. Yes and these seals were to be euthanized as they had severly injured their previous trainers. Might not have been these seals, but i know he has aquired several using this method. I think this is wonderful diplay of "true" compasion and knowledge. > I met Doug several years ago and have been his apprentice for may of > those years. I wish I could have seen a showing like this. All I can add to this is I am envious. > I have also seen Doug hold a 2 year old sweet inocent llama that was so > badly hurt by 2 dogs that she had to be put to sleep. Doug did not want > her to be afraid or alone in her last minutes.
Again I knew I had him pegged for "my kind of guy". Anyone with this type of love and compassion for animals can’t be bad! > you wouldn’t want to be in front of him in a "cash only" line and pull > out a check book!
Boy can I relate to this. I get really galled it this type of inconsideracy in the human race. Like why should I wait, I’m more important than anyone else. The other day I was dropping of a prescrition to be filled in "Drop Off" line and this woman just walzted up ahead of me to Pick up her prescription. I was muddering all kinds of things under my breath. Geez do they really have that much problem reading? Is the illiteracy that high in the US? Or is it just flat out inconsideracy without a conscience? I’m certain it is the latter! What about persons who think their time is so important they park in the "handicapped" places? How about the ones driving down the road with a phone in their ears for 30 minutes, not even paying attention to the road. And Dougs is as big as the state he loves > so much (Texas)
Just another reason, I knew I liked Doug from the get go! Like I said my kind of guy. There’s no place like home!! Texas oh Texas! and I know that he doesn’t need me to defend him, but > because of him, I have been able to bottle feed a camel, feed a seal, > train a rhea and be up close and personal with a lot of animals I had > only before been able to admire from afar.
Gosh how can I get this priviledge in life. Boy what a lifetime dream! Somehow, I guess it just isn’t in my cards. I envy you and Doug and all animal trainers! > Linda
