Thanks again, Larry! For the record for the third time now: Chip Douglas is *not* in my killfile. He loves dogs (as I do) and he’s entitled to his opinion (as I am). I don’t agree with with a lot of the nonsense he posts, but when he gets loud, he gets loud at individuals, and he’s been fairly polite *to me*. I certainly don’t think running a person off a newsgroup is any way to be open-minded, and I’ve posted at length on this topic. – Michelle

When you make "racist" jokes and classify it as "satire" some people are bound to get offended. I am Chinese, and I don’t eat dogs, but I do know Chinese that eat dogs. What is the big deal? In India you will probably be shot if you tell everyone you see that you eat beef, and Muslism don’t eat pigs. So? These are all individual preferences. If you made the joke, some people might think it’s funny, some people might be offended. That is that. If you can’t stand being flamed, don’t make those jokes then. It does not matter what your intention was, what matters is how the reader understands your joke. Some religious sects in India find Americans offensive because our nation eats beef. Now, I had plenty of chums in school who were of all kinds of mixed races, and yes, some of them where Asian. Most of *them* were from my mathematics course (Calc), which were ~50% Asian in a school where the Asian population was *maybe* 10%. How’s that for stereotyping? When a Jewish person, much like yourself, called me on that by stating sarcastically that that was "a great reason to hire someone", I replied with the only defense I had which was that of the positions *I* hired people for, they consisted of a 22yo Hispanic female who was very short, a very tall 26yo black male, a very tall and buxom 31yo black female, and an overweight 40yo white Jewish female. This was greeted, much like you greeted the comments above, with a hand in face attitude, and further implications of racism. These things are NOT said to prove that one is not a racist, but that one has proven in the past that they have no propensities towards racism of any kind. Let me say this sssllllloooowwwwllllyyyy so you understand. I am Irish. I do not take offense when people mention Irish tempers or their drinking habits. Why? Because it’s true for some Irish people. I’m the only one in my extended family who doesn’t drink at all, and I know more than a few Irish people I would classify as alcoholics.
