Norton disk editor is a hex editor, it comes with Norton Utilties.  I said that earlier A header tells me which service the message came from, I never claimed to know "who" posted "what" for certain.  I used laws of probabilties to make my guesses. -Rob

Because byte means 8 bits. There are terms for 32 bits. Depending on the language, compiler, or platform it could be integer, long integer, word, long word, etc.

No need to make electricity for me, thank you, but the rest of the world will still need it, and here’s why: Yesterday,  I received the car adapter which allows me to plug into the cigarette lighter and have a regular 3-prong adapter giving power (purchased from igo.com – item 2135).  When I’m ready, I’ll probably be signing up with "Go America" who had an ad in the NY times a few days ago.. $379 for the wireless modem (a Sierra Air<something> 300 pcmcia modem), The service is $59.95/month, and a one year contract, speed are 19.2k which is fast enough. No roaming fees, No charges for time use (flat rate per month, nationwide, but they’re not in atlanta and one other major market – though they are here in levittown and I think they said there were 3 antennae’s in this town). With that, I don’t even need a house/apartment which means no property taxes if I don’t want to pay them (of course, I don’t think I want to live out of my car). When I get that modem, and since I have the power adapter for my laptop (i.e. alternator in car is my electric company), guess what : .. Suddenly the electric bill is included with my gas bill (putting your company and related companies out of business).  I also become less reliant on owning land property, since I can have all my bills sent to one of those online bill payment services.  I can then sign up with ‘citi financial/interactive’ [citibank subsidiary] which is online-only (www.citifi.com), along with something like www.paytrust.com , who will receive all of my bills at their address and post them online for me. Rob, I have resisted saying this–but I’ve seen way too many posts today that demonstrate you know little about certain parts of internet technology. For instance, using only ONE header to demonstrate who posted something–you have to verifythe header with other headers before you know what you have. And, your bogus list of hex editors.  None of the prgrams you listed was a hex editor. I could go on an on and on. The bottom line is,my 16 year old son knows tons more than you do.  He is A+ certified, he works 3 jobs.  1) taco bell, 2)provate computer consulting and 3) he does trouble shooting and upgrades for the local high schools.  And part of how he earns his allowance is to maintain our LAN system and DSL service. He installed win2000–he knows how it works–you appear not to. Unlike a text editor which only allows you to edit a file in the abstract, where it appears that a file contains letters and numbers and such, a hex editor allows you to edit a file (or disk or whatever) the way it’s stored. Each letter is represented by 8 or 16 (typically) bits (binary digits). Hexadecimal is a more concise way of representing binary, as each digit (0-9 and A-F) represents 4 bits. (e.g. 0 is 0000, 5 is 0101, F is 1111.) It would be like having word keys on your keyboard, so you could type a whole word instead of each letter.
