Special interest newsletters, magazines, and trade publications

Question:

To find newsletters that will reach your target audience, I suggest that you check the website www.mediafinder.com from Oxbridge Communications.  This site offers searchable directories for newsletters, periodicals, mailing lists etc. I have found it very useful because you can request media kits and further information directly from the Mediafinder site. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Does anyone know if there exists an index of currently-published >newsletters, magazines, and trade publications which cater to special >interests and specific businesses and careers?  I’m looking for something >akin to the SRDS (Standard Rate & Data Service) Index found in the reference >section of most county and academic libraries … the SRDS lists prices for >advertising in magazines, periodicals, card-deck promotions, mailing lists, >etc.

This is not exactly what you’re asking for but here’s an idea for you. Hopefully you’ve captured names, addresses, etc. from those who have bought your software.  Now create a short survey to send to those folks.  On the survey ask your customers what periodicals they read, etc.  Don’t have more than 7 questions on the survey.  Offer them a freebie for answering the survey.  (It will increase your response rate.)  Now send it to your current customers.  (You may even be able to send it via e-mail.) When the replies come back, you’ll be able to determine what periodicals your current clients read.  Since the software is selling well, obviously you’ll want to attract more clients just like those you’ve already got.  And since they’ve told you what pubs they read, next you’ll want to send a press release or take out an ad in these pubs or do both. Keep in mind if you do the press release to make it newsworthy.  And if you do an ad, do a small classified ad of the lead generating kind. Make sure your copy is client and benefit centered. Does anyone know if there exists an index of currently-published newsletters, magazines, and trade publications which cater to special interests and specific businesses and careers?  I’m looking for something akin to the SRDS (Standard Rate & Data Service) Index found in the reference section of most county and academic libraries … the SRDS lists prices for advertising in magazines, periodicals, card-deck promotions, mailing lists, etc. I recently developed a new software product which I’ve been selling with great success via the internet, and I want to expand my advertising into special-interest newsletters and magazines that are read by my target markets.
