Searching for CAREER!

Question:

Ken, I read Donna’s reply (great advice).  But she left out one thing…. network, network, network.  ID a list of companies in the Toronto area and ask to speak to the person in the field your interested in; (marketing, HR, sales, etc.)  Ask if you can come visit for about 30 minutes (no more).  People a) like to talk and b) like to have people ask for their advice.  Leave them a card (resume if they ask).   Good Luck! Hello everyone.  This is my first post but I have tremendously enjoying reading about these marketing issues on this group over the past few months. I have a question now!  I will be graduating from university at the end of this year and am in the search of a full-time position.  Can anyone recommend how to possibly use the net to search for job opportunities! This is difficult as my field of interest is not particularly in the computer field.  I would be interested in something more along the lines of consumer goods and the sport or entertainment fields within the Toronto, Ontario, CANADA area. Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Regards, KEN SPENCE — —

Hi Ken, you fellow CANADIAN! ——- re: Searching for CAREER! I would suggest to you, that as with anything else, use the Internet as a part of your strategy, not your whole strategy. What you could do is use the search provided by your ISP that lists local companies.   I know that mine does that for all registered business users in Alberta, you can search them by category. This is a great way to find out about the company and see if there is anything that they do that might interest you.  A lot of companies ( the big ones) also have a page that lists job opportunities with them, note that you are not the only one looking at these, this Internet thing is Global. Remember that this is a tough job market, so before you go see any of these companies who you  want to work with, think about what their needs are in this economy, and present them with how you can be of service to them.  You will be able to figure this out by researching their Web pages and figuring out who they are and how they see themselves. If I lived in Toronto, I would be talking to the big Breweries ( Molson, Labatt) as they are the kings of consumer products and do a lot of business within the sports and entertainment fields as part of their promotions. — Wishing you the best of success Donna Henuset Independant Business Consultant Calgary AB  Canada – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Can anyone  recommend how to possibly use the net to search >  for job opportunities! > This is difficult as my field of interest is not particularly in the computer > field.  I would be interested in something more along the lines of consumer > goods and the sport or entertainment fields within  the Toronto, Ontario, > CANADA area.
