Question:
I just found this newsgroup, through a posting in the Marketing Research Roundtable, and felt very secure in that the group was recommended by a "colleague." The word-of-mouth feeling made it seem very legitimate, beneficial, and almost secret/sacred. Just an insight… [Moderator's Note: Maybe we'll attain cult status.....Bwahahahaha! Maybe we already have<g> -JG]
Response:
Hi! I can attest to the difficulties you’ve indicated. I’m a new (2 years) business owner without too much of a business background & I’ve been occasionally searching for advice as to marketing & such on the "Info Superhighway" weve all heard about..You know, I haven’t sat for hours day after day doing this, but it hasn’t been easy finding this newsgroup or anything much useful in my enterprise. I’d hoped I could teach myself about many of the crucial matters in business like marketing, accounting, legal etc..Coming to these forums like you would to a mentor when a specific question arose..But when you search for "marketing" on the web these days you get a load of company web pages and spam. I’m glad to have found this forum-THANKS! richard (working on signature now that I know what it is!!!) [Moderator's Note: As of November 13, m.b.m.m. articles are archived with the search engines (AltaVista, DejaNews, et.al.) -JG] : :Hello everyone! : :Since going online late June, m.b.m.m. has received the following number of :postings: : :: Articles Authors ranking :: June = 128 1. Small business/entrepreneurs :: July = 439 2. Marketing consultants :: August = 384 3. Students :: September = 388 4. Unknown :: October = 502 5. Professors :: November to date = 162 : :This has come about without archiving with the search engines (AltaVista,
ejaNews). : :As most of you know, I chose to not archive in trying to reduce the spam sent to :you the readers. But recently, some people upon finding this newsgroup expressed :how difficult it was to find m.b.m.m. and some are also experiencing :distribution problems which normally could be checked with a search engine. : :How much additional spam readers would receive by archiving is the question. We :all know that spammers have wised up and obtain the e-mail addresses directly :from a newsgroup as well as via search engines. But I of all people have come to :love the delete key. : :Many will not do a *get new newsgroups* or do a keyword (marketing) search :within their news reader’s *all newsgroups* list but rather look to find via a :search engine. Being not listed with the search engines reducs the exposure of :m.b.m.m. hence affects the newsgroup’s traffic. So I would like to open up the :group to archiving with the search engines. Are there thoughts on this matter? : :As for the distribution problem, I will start sending a one line posting at the :end of each batch giving date, approximate time GMT, batch number, and number of :postings. A one line posting would be as follows: : : Nov-11-96,
