Marketing Movers and Shakers
Question:
>>I’ve seen the names mentioned of Jay Abraham, Jay Levinson, Dan Kennedy here >and other lists, but am not familar with them.
Jay Conrad Levinson you will find in any good bookstore – he’s written a couple of dozen books on marketing, advertising, and sales. I like him because his measure of success is PROFITS. Not that he doesn’t have other values, but he won’t call an ad "good" unless it makes money. This is really rare in advertising. Jenny Ford

Yes, all too rare. I like to watch the entertaining "Award-winning advertising" type shows because they do look great. But the real award for effective advertising is in results, whether responses, dollars, volunteer hours, or whatever the objective of the ad was in the first place. One terrific writer who focuses very tightly on actual, proveable, and scientifically verifiable results of marketing is John Caples. I’m thinking specifically of the great book "Tested Advertising Methods." As John Caples points out, a lot of us may consider the decades-old headline "CORNS HURT?" to be boring. But if you’ve got corns that hurt — man, that’s one terrifically effective ad! :) Used, Rare, and Out-of-Print Books and Book Search Service. Looking for a book? Ask Me!

Hello all, I’m a business student and am studying marketing. I am familiar with the works of academic movers and shakers, Kotler, Aaker, et.al. However, I’d be interested what all you practicing marketers recommend. I’ve seen the names mentioned of Jay Abraham, Jay Levinson, Dan Kennedy here and other lists, but am not familar with them. Could anyone comment on them? Where I can find their work? What makes their views so popular? Any other movers or shakers you’d recommend? Thanks for any information. Ted

There’s a fellow called Andrew Barber=Starkey who is being called the new and affordable Jay Abrahams. This guy is more than a consultant…he’s done it all in real life. He’s also a great salesman and incorporates sales training into his practice. BTW, he has taken most of abrahms’ training. Andrew can be reached at drop the k to reply
