Looking for info on catalog hit rates
Question:
I am in the early stages of putting together business and marketing plans for a small catalog (direct mail) offering apparel and other items. I am trying to find information on catalog "hit" rates, or, the percentage of orders received, to catalogs mailed on similar businesses. I understand that testing is necessary to hone in on target markets, and plan to test adequately before mass mailing. Any information on sites where statistics on hit rates might be available would be very much appreciated.

Like LLBean and Lands’ End? One is doing significantly better than the other because of offering and presentation! Using your method they are the same! Response:
Hi, You will never be able to find meaningful information on hit rates because of variations between products. Anyway catalog companies guard their trade secrets, wouldn’t you? You are right, testing is the key. The way professionals start a catalog off is not done by adverting their catalogs. Instead you advertise your best offer/line only And when you have your first order, you now have built some creditability, and you then send off the order including your catalog. And remember, you must have a thoroughly tested systemized follow-up program.
