Is no favours a new trend?

Question:

We were married in Pittsburgh, PA and did not do favours (of course, we did not do the omnipresent cookie table either).  According to my wedding consultant (who’s been in the business for over 10 years), only 1/3 of the couples she works with choose to do favours.

Response:

I own a bridal accessories store in the midwest. When we started our business in 1992 we had a few very simple favor boxes. The midwest is a little slower to pick up on trends than on the coasts, but I can tell you that in the last five years our favor selection has grown to over 200 different designs and accounts for over 35% of our business.  We’re located on a pedestrian mall in a big convention city and have sent our favors all over the country to brides who saw our favors and couldn’t find anything like them in their home town.. They add to your table decorations and it’s a great way to say thanks to all the important people in your lives who have come to share your day with you.  In my opinion, favors are a growing trend here in the midwest.

Response:

I have only been to one wedding where I remember getting a favor. And I only remember it because I didn’t know what it was! IF (big if) I decide to do any kind of a favor, it will be a small chocolate from a chocolate factory in SF near where he lives. Sue
