As a foreigner I might get protocols with US military wrong, but I suggest you keep the service offering narrow and tightly defined, the better to produce a higher quality result for a specific problem than be all things to all people. That way, if you WOW them with the result, they have something specific to talk about you to others with. There are always two things to sell – yourself to do something, and the _knowledge_ of how you would do something. As an example: Perhaps focus on anti-discrimination at sea, emphasising numbers of mysterious disappearances at sea possibly through race/gender problems. Equip ship wardrooms and messdecks with a manual, perhaps even put it on intranets on board ships. Alternatively, look at audtiting and reviewing the consultants who do the training if the Navy already have plenty of HR consultants to do the upfront work. Marketing would then follow on from who the target is – the navy personnel who use the HR services that are arranged by someone else in a different location, or the officers who signed off the budget for the programme that made the consultants available to the navy personnel. Then it becomes a case of either creating demand by emphasising problem avoidance or offering problem recovery at sea, or offering peace of mind and a "Cover your ass" for the officers in management who hired the consultants, as they need to know that t6he solution is still valid. Marketing wise, I would emphasise personal selling and encouraging referral, also conduct plenty of PR and issue press releases about problems solved or avoided, careers rescued or enhanced etc. Cheers from New Zealand!! I am working on an MBA with HR emphasis and I am required to do a major project. I have decided to do a marketing plan for an integrated human resources organization for the US Navy. I would appreciate any insight anyone has in setting up this type of organization.
