how can I find out if there's a market for something?

Question:

A friend and I are creating a web based business but are unsure how to target people. And frankly, we don’t have the money at this point to hire market researches. We want to find the market ourselves, without resorting to blind submissions that will be seen as spam. Please email any thoughts. Thanks much. 1. Build a decent page that gives something to the browser besides your message (being downright controversial or bizarre helps) 2. Register the url in appropriate search engines 4. Get credit card facilities 5. Find out what happened to 3 – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> A friend and I are creating a web based business but are unsure how to > target people. I would approach this with caution.  Many companies are spending a fortune just trying to get people to their sites.  Web business, like any business, requires a well thought out and detailed business plan. Since you do not know how to target your audience, I am going to guess you do not have a business or marketing plan.  Remember the internet is a tool not a strategy.  Go back to the basics and put together a strong marketing plan.  If you do not know how and do not have the money to hire a good consultant, at least go get a book on how to prepare a plan.   You are correct.  Your e-mails will be seen as SPAM. Therefore, your strategy has to be to draw people to your site to request information. Good luck!
