Good point. You stepped out of the box I carelessly drew around the discussion. I must have been tired! > And if I’m at a restaurant when I am relaying that info, you can be sure > I don’t have my bookmarks handy.
Ditto. (no, NOT the plural that refers to that other social phenomenon) > Steve Crisp > PagePlop Web Hosting Service > http://www.pageplop.com
…pageplop.com. Ow, this is beginning to hurt! "Charter & Posting Guidelines" and "The FAQ" Available at these fine places: your news server, www.dejanews.com , www.dakine.demon.nl/mbmm/ PLEASE, reduce quoted text to essential when replying. Max line length at 80.

NO.9 DOMAIN NAME Your assumption that a good domain name gives instant creditability is being a little over optimistic, to say the least! Hi Darren A domain name should convey the major self serving benefit to the targeted audience, but it’s not that easy with just a few characters. Domain names should never contain any hype or superlatives, because that is not creditable at the subliminal level. Keep your domain simple and easy to remember. Now, in any form a advertising, you only have 3 seconds to get the major self serving benefit across to grab their attention, others wise their subliminal minds switch out. Re www.advantagegroup.com It is useless because what does the advantagegroup mean to me? Nothing! Sorry your three seconds are up! And by the way most Web sites start off with "Welcome To So an So" and they are also useless. How does welcome to so and so benefit me? Sorry your threes seconds are up! www.lowcostcalls is much better (but appears not to be available!) [Mod: At the time of this injection, lowcostcalls.com was not taken, from a WHOIS I just did
] www.lowercalls would be even better, because it causes people to subliminally think "Lower than what?" they will tailor your name to exactly fit their own experiences, thus creating new memory links, and therefore more choices of data to act upon. > I’m aware of how important a domain name is – Instant credibility. But how > important is the actual wording of the domain? For example, my company name > is Advantage Group and I’m an agent for a UK telecommunications company > offering low-cost phone calls. > From a marketing point-of-view, is it best to use " www.advantagegroup.com > ", " www.ag.com " or " www.lowcostcalls.com " ?
Darren, I agree with John Block, as you are only doing business in the UK, go with uk as top level. What I would do is register both; (advantagegroup.co.uk or advantage-group.co.uk) for a company domain and (lowcostcalls) for tag domain. Perhaps you will in future expand your business services so your company name is already branded, rather than if you only went with the "lowcostcalls" domain. And, I would hope your marketing efforts will not only be online, but your promotional efforts will include offline, and also consider your company stationary. Just a suggestion. This is what I would do
Another thing. I don’t know what the charges are for UK domains, and I do know many UK web hosts charge extra for registering for you. But many web hosts located in the USA, will register foreign top level domains. I believe Steve Crisp of PagePlop Web Hosting Service (http://www.pageplop.com) does UK as well, at no additional charge. If you have no luck with advantagegroup.co.uk , I’ll sell you advantagegroup.nl for $10,000…. just kidding <g> John Gerits — G e r i t s – K n e e f e l & A s s o c i a t e s Strategic Management & Marketing Consulting Will you be around tomorrow?
