You can’t do this. Airlines don’t allow transfer of miles (or didn’t when I tried a little over a year ago on both American and United). John W.
Response:
I think there may be an exception for close family members – my brother sometimes flies using his son’s frequent flyer miles. (Of course, the fact they have the same name might help, but knowing the people involved, I’m pretty sure they’re not pulling anything shady.) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Interested in Frequent Flyer mileage into the following Airlines please > contact me asap. You can get tickets for anyone using your own miles. But you can’t give your miles away. I came to find this out the last time I was laid off. My wife had some American miles, almost enough for a ticket home (Tennessee; I’m in California). I had some miles banked up as well. We thought it’d be nice to put the miles together so there’d be enough. American said no dice. Out of curiosity I called United about this as well; I had a ton of miles on United, but thought that, if they let you transfer between family members, my wife and I could combine. No dice. I’m pretty sure I called Northwest as well (I was laid off, had plenty of time). My parents recently tried with Delta. They had some miles in individual accounts that were going to expire and they wanted to combine them so my mom can fly out here. No luck. The only program that I know of that has ‘family miles’ is All Nippon Airways; one mileage number for the whole family. Other airlines might have it, but I’m not sure. One (sort of expensive) solution is to join Diners Club and convert everything to Diner’s club points, then into the airline of your choice. the fee is still cheaper than a ticket, though. Ah, that’s how they must do it, then! My nephew travels so much for his business that he never uses up all the frequent flier miles he accumulates, so he likes to spread them around among the family.

Yeah, I know a lot of people who do this. One guy gave a free trip to his relative as a wedding present; he’s a consultant and is constantly on the road; between using his mileage card to buy the tickets from the airline (bonus miles if buying online from the airline), he said he could get a free ticket every month at most, and sometimes every week (depending on the destination). I personally miss the days when airlines (at least Northwest did this) divided the US up into zones, so you needed less miles to fly closer. John W.

British Airways does, too — or at least did. We accumulated some free trips on BA that way, combining miles from most of us. They limited us to four family members. Larry Lain
